As part of the Beaux-Arts era, however, it continued to thrive until the 1940s as the larger landscape setting for many estate-scale Neoclassical dwellings and associated formal garden complexes. The Picturesque style remained popular from the 1840s well into the early twentieth century. Olmsted, Downing, and Weidenmann all created Picturesque landscapes, including many public parks. While British landscape critics distinguished the “Beautiful” (as seen in the rolling pastoral designs of Lancelot “Capability” Brown) from the wildly dramatic “Picturesque” (replete with ravines, dead trees, and artificial ruins), America combined these alternative approaches to the “natural” landscape aesthetic within the term “The Picturesque.” In fact, both approaches often were used at a single site. If you have any questions about buying a European landscape print please don’t hesitate to get in touch or check out my print infoand online print store.Evolved predominantly from mid-eighteenth century British landscape design theory, this style sought to evoke “natural” landscape appearance of rougher terrain and dramatic asymmetric composition in contrast to the axial geometry of earlier Renaissance and Baroque landscapes, such as Versailles. The Matterhorn is one of the most stunning mountains I have ever seen and I was so glad to see it from Grindelwald, Zermatt, and Interlaken. It is home to some of the most picturesque landscapes in Europe, with its rolling hills, snow-capped mountains, and crystal-clear lakes. Switzerland was also a Europe landscape photography bucketlist location for me. Paris photography is amazing and there are many locations to photograph the Eiffel Tower from including Trocadéro, Rue De L'Universite, Champ de Mars, Montparnasse Tower. It was an absolute dream to visit and I was able to the landscape photo I had been wishing for.Īfter wanting to see the Eiffel Tower since I was a kid I was finally able to tick that one off the bucketlist. The island is surrounded by tidal flats and is famous for its stunning tidal island views and its iconic 11th-century abbey, which sits atop a rocky outcropping. Mont St Michel is a medieval island commune located in Normandy, France. When I returned to Europe in 2022 I had my sights set on Mont St Michel in Normandy France, Paris, and the Matterhorn in Switzerland. Lake Bled is most famous for its small island in the middle of the lake, which is home to a church. On that same trip I also visited Lake Bled which is located in Slovenia, a stunning alpine lake surrounded by picturesque mountains and forests. I would have to the say that the Dolomites region is made for landscape photography and it was my favourite place to visit. Hiking the trails in the Dolomites was such an amazing experience as the tracks are well looked after and sign posted. In just 2 weeks I was able to visit such majestic Italian landscape locations such as the Alpe Di Siusi, Lago Di Karersee, Lago Di Brais, Cima Cadin, Tre Cime Di Lavaredo, plus many more. The best time to visit for photography is in the early morning or late afternoon when the light is soft and the shadows are long, accentuating the dramatic scenery. The Dolomites, located in Northeastern Italy, are a breathtaking mountain range known for their rugged peaks and jagged spires. This was my introduction to Europe landscapes and what a way to open up the doors to such an incredible continent. One of the first overseas locations I visited for landscape photography was the incredible Dolomites in Italy.
